Week 2
Day3
P.R.A.Y.
R is for Reliance
This is our second week taking a deep dive into prayer.
1 Samuel 17:33-37
“Then Saul said to David, “You are not able to go against this Philistine to fight him. For you are [only] a young man and he has been a warrior since his youth.” But David said to Saul, “Your servant was tending his father’s sheep. When a lion or a bear came and took a lamb out of the flock, I went out after it and attacked it and rescued the lamb from its mouth; and when it rose up against me, I seized it by its whiskers and struck and killed it. Your servant has killed both the lion and the bear; and this uncircumcised Philistine will be like one of them, since he has taunted and defied the armies of the living God.” David said, “The Lord who rescued me from the paw of the lion and from the paw of the bear, He will rescue me from the hand of this Philistine.” And Saul said to David, “Go, and may the Lord be with you.””
1 Samuel 17:33-37 AMP
You Are Only….
Last week we talked about preparation in reference to how we can prepare in prayer for the trials ahead.
This week we are talking about relying on God.
God had been preparing David his whole life for His purpose.
David knew from past experiences that when he relied on God, he could win every battle no matter the odds.
Notice that Saul pointed out David’s weakness. “You are only a young boy.” Next Saul pointed out the strengths of the opponent.
Earlier in the story his eldest brother, Eliab did the same thing.
What weaknesses are your peers pointing out for you?
You are too old, too slow, too messed up, too scatter brained, to inconsistent, you have failed before…..
How big is your opponent?
Large debt, scary diagnosis, failing marriage, starting a new business, children out of control….
Pointing out inadequacy and inflating the size of the opponent are tactics of the enemy!
These are distractions.
David wasn’t relying on himself. He was relying on God.
Is anyone bigger, smarter, stronger, faster or wiser than God?
Not only that, but just like David, God has been preparing you your whole life to equip you for any battle that you are or will face.
God has taken all your past experiences, the pain, the failures, the losses and of course the victories and he has woven them together in preparation for His purpose.
Whatever your facing, whatever your desires, no matter what it looks like, God has prepared you and He is waiting for you to rely on Him!
David did not go to face Goliath in his own strength or his own intellect.
David went in the strength of the Lord and for a greater purpose.
Action Step:
What has God done for you in the past?
Ask Holy Spirit to bring to the surface the purpose He has for you today.
Pray and rely on His strength.
