What's In A Name

Day3

Week1

Hebrews 1

“He is infinitely greater than angels, for he inherited a rank and a Name far greater than theirs. For God has never said to any angel what he said to Jesus: “You are my favored Son, today I have fathered you.” And this: “I will be the Father to him, and he will be the Son to me.” And again, when he brought his firstborn Son into the world: “Let all my angels bow down before him and kiss him in worship.” And about his angels he says, “I make my angels swift winds, and my ministers fiery flames.” But about his Son, he called him “God,” saying, “Your throne, O God, endures forever and ever and you will rule your kingdom with justice and righteousness, For you have cherished righteousness and detested lawlessness. For this reason, God, your God, has anointed you and poured out the oil of bliss on you more than on any of your friends.””

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭1‬:‭4‬-‭9‬ ‭TPT‬‬

What’s In A Name

Have you heard the saying,”What’s in a name?”?

This quote from Romeo and Juliet is pleading the case that a name is not who we are. If we had another title we would still be the same person.

A name is what we answer to.

In Biblical times, a name was often given to describe what they saw or felt at the birth.

How many Mom’s could agree that right after delivery may not be the best time to choose?

Today in our culture, we give names most often because we like how they sound or they represent a concept, like Grace, that we are fond of.

What’s in a name, in today’s passage has far more importance.

He Shem is the name or title of God.

Jesus is the Name above every other name! Philippians 2:9

There is no title or name that has any power or authority over Jesus!

That is great news my friends because cancer is a name, depression is a name, poverty is a name, disease is a name……

Jesus gave us power of attorney!

He gave us His name to use on His behalf.

He gave us His signet ring!

That being said, Jesus exalted His Word Over His Name! Psalm 138:2

What does that mean for us?

We have been given the opportunity and authority to speak His Word in His Name!

Action Step

Every knee must bow before the Name of Jesus!

What names are giving you trouble today?

What does His Word say about it?

Speak His Word over your situation In Jesus Name. That is how you use your power of attorney.

Your circumstances have to bow to Jesus.

Meditate on that today.
