Day4
Week 5
Hebrews 6
“Now is the time for us to progress beyond the basic message of Christ and advance into perfection. The foundation has already been laid for us to build upon: turning away from our dead works to embrace faith in God, teaching about different baptisms, impartation by the laying on of hands, resurrection of the dead, and eternal judgment. So with God’s enablement we will move on to deeper truths. It is impossible to restore an apostate. For once a person has come into God’s light, and tasted the gifts of the heavenly realm, and has received the Holy Spirit, and feasted on the good Word of God, and has entered into the power of the age that is breaking in, if he abandons his faith, there is no use even trying to lead him to repentance. By their sin of apostasy they re-crucify the Son of God, and have publicly repudiated him. For men’s hearts are just like the soil that drinks up the showers which often fall upon it. Some soil will yield crops as God’s blessing upon the field. But if the field continues to produce only thorns and thistles a curse hangs over it and it will be burned.”

Dead works-
Useless deeds or attempts of people to please God through religion. The keeping of religious laws or traditions, and serving others to gain influence with God.
Apostasy in Christianity is the willful falling away and ultimate rejection of Christ and the central teachings of Christianity by someone who formerly was a Christian (Christ-follower).
The term apostasy comes from the Greek word apostasia ("ἀποστασία") meaning "rebellion", "state of apostasy", "abandonment", or "defection".
"Apostasy is a theological category describing those who have voluntarily and consciously abandoned their faith in the God of the covenant, who manifests himself most completely in Jesus Christ."
Wake Up
The warnings in The Book of Hebrews are there for a reason. None of us are exempt to falling into these traps.
Are you asleep?
We all need to wake up and be alert in our daily lives. Spiritual maturity starts with recognizing that we all have fallen short and we need to be on guard daily to the subtle traps that have been set for us.
Most of us think that we would never reject Jesus, but wake up, my friends because as you will discover from today’s lesson, it can happen to any of us if we don’t heed the warnings.️
V4.
To say it is impossible does not mean that God cannot bring them to repentance, but that He chooses to leave them in there hardened state, much like pharaoh who hardened his heart to God, but also King Nebuchadnezzar who refused to repent and for 7 years remained in the wilderness like a wild animal and then was given back his mind and not only acknowledged, but praised God.
Romans 1:28, Daniel 4:37
The first major factor in a believer committing apostasy (i.e., becoming an unbeliever) is
1. unbelief
WARNING! WARNING!️ Other factors potentially leading to apostasy include:
2. persecution or fear of being persecuted
3. general suffering and hardship 4. false teachings and factions-state of conflict within an organization; dissension. (Speaking against your Pastor’s or other church leader’s decisions.)
5. malaise- Because hope is to the soul what energy is to the body, soul-malaise manifests itself as a vague, doubty, spiritual discouragement. You just feel spiritually sluggish.
6. indifference and negligence towards the things of God (specifically, "the command to love one's neighbors")
7. engaging in sinful acts or assimilating to the ungodly attitudes and actions reflected in a non-Christian culture.
1,4&5 are especially concerning to me because they are sneaky and can be in your life without being detected.
Action Step
Take a daily audit of your spiritual attitudes.
Thank God for being allowed to renew your mind as the mind of Christ.
Make a conscious choice to be renewed in the spirit of your mind right now.
