Day2
Week27
2 Samuel
“Now Absalom in his lifetime had taken and set up for himself a memorial stone in the Valley of the King, for he said, “I have no son by whom my name may be remembered.” So he named the memorial stone after himself; and to this day, it is called the monument of Absalom.”

Vanity
Vanity- excessive pride in or admiration of one's own appearance or achievements.
Take a look in the mirror and tell me what you see or rather ask God what He sees.
Our perception is very different from the reality that God sees. He is holy and His vision is perfect.
Absalom was full of pride and vanity. He wanted to be remembered and made a memorial for himself. He had 3 sons, but they were either dead or he didn’t consider them worthy to carry on his legacy.
His actual burial was a complete disgrace, but he got his wish to be remembered. He became a memorable lesson for all of the dangers of rebellion to parents and prideful attitudes.
David saw his son through the lens of a father’s love. We need to thank God that He sees us through the lens of the blood of Jesus!
Are we looking at others through the lens of vanity or the blood of Jesus?
Action Step
God, thank You for being slow to anger, even when I am not.
Forgive me when I am quick to judge, gossip, or lie. Teach me to speak with love, to hear with compassion, and to respond with grace.
In Jesus' name, Amen.
