Day1
Week1
2 Samuel
The second book of Samuel was originally written with the book of 1 Samuel all together as 1 book likely written sometime after 960 BC.
Jewish tradition points to Samuel as the author, as well as the prophets Nathan and Gad after Samuel’s death.
The theme is David’s reign as king and it covers a period of 40 years, about 1010 to 970 BC. David’s military victories are recounted as well as his sin with Bathsheba.
These stories present the picture of an imperfect man, who, nevertheless, is said to have “a heart after God.”
Though David sinned, he came under conviction and sought God‘s forgiveness.
During his reign, Israel’s borders were extended roughly from Egypt to the Euphrates River, fulfilling God‘s promise to Abraham.
