Day5
1Samuel 30
Week 47
“They found an Egyptian in the field and took him to David. He gave him bread and he ate, and they made him drink water. And they gave him a part of a cake of figs and two cakes of raisins. When he had eaten, his spirit came back to him, for he had not eaten bread or drunk any water for three days and nights. Then David said to him, “To whom do you belong? And where are you from?” And he said, “I am a young man of Egypt, servant to an Amalekite. And my master left me, because three days ago I fell sick. We raided the south of the Kerethites, the south of Judah, and the south of Caleb. And we burned Ziklag with fire.””

Two Things
My, how the tides have turned! The Egyptian, who’s ancestors made the Israelites slaves, was now a slave to a despicable, ungodly people. They treated him worse than a sick horse, who would have at least been put out of his misery. He was left behind sick and suffering.
Do you remember who the Amalekites were? They were the group of people that God told King Saul to utterly destroy and Saul disobeyed, and lied about it.
Two things stick out to me today.
We will reap what we so, whether good or bad, for generations to come. The Egyptian became a slave.
Disobedience always sets us and those around us up for trouble. The Amalekites continued to cause trouble for Israel and to this day all antisemitism is referred to as “Amalek”.
These two things are key principles for our lives today. God will take what the enemy meant for evil and turn it for good. Genesis 50:20, so leave vengeance for God to handle. No need to sow evil for evil, but rather love your enemies and get rid of all strife!
And as for Amalek, this represents our sin nature or the lust of our flesh. We are to crucify the flesh, utterly destroy it.
“For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father, but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”
1 John 2:16-17 NLT
