Day1
Week13
1Samuel 8
“But the people refused to obey the voice of Samuel. And they said, “No! But surely a king will be over us! So that we also will be like all the nations! And so that our king will govern us, and will go out before us, and will fight our battles.” And after Samuel heard all the words of the people, he spoke them in the hearing of the Lord. And the Lord said to Samuel, “Obey their voice, and make for them a king.” So Samuel said to Israel’s fighting men, “Go every man to his city.””

Twisted
It’s easy to see the shiny things. The seemingly better life everyone else has.
Comparison is a twisted trap of the enemy. The grass looks so bright and fresh and new over there in someone else’s life.
We can only see from the outside.
Your neighbor only lets you see the best part of their life.
You can’t see the addiction or the amount of debt or the mental illness or the marital affair or the disorganized home…..
It’s twisted. Everything looks like roses from the other side of the fence. From the outside looking in.
Nothing has changed since the Bible times. People are still the same. Although knowledge has increased and technology has increased, people are still the same.
The enemy has no new tricks. He is still a liar and a perverter of truth.
The Israelites wanted security. They wanted someone else to take care of them so they could rest and live the good life.
They already had that if they would have just looked up.
They wanted an earthly, physical king. A king they could see with there eyes.
What are you looking at that is shining brightly causing you to take your eyes off Jesus and long for something you can see, taste, touch, smell or hear?
God’s people rejected Him for a shiny object. A twisted comparison with the world around them.
The untwisted truth is that we already have everything we need in Christ.
Are we looking to Him or at what we seemingly don’t have like “everyone else”?
That is what children do!
Isn’t it time we grow up and trust in our God?
Action Step
It’s time for another self audit.
What are you looking at?
Who are you wishing you could be like?
If Jesus was not your honest answer to both questions, then repent and receive forgiveness.
Turn and run home to Him, He is waiting for you.
