Day2
Week16
2 Samuel
“So the messenger departed and came to report to David everything that Joab had sent with him. The messenger reported to David, “The men prevailed over us when they came out against us in the open field, but we drove them back to the entrance of the gate. Then the archers shot at your servants from upon the city wall, and some of those who serve the king are dead. Even your servant Uriah the Hittite died.” So David replied to the messenger, “Thus you shall report to Joab, ‘Do not allow this thing to dismay you, for the sword devours one as well as another. Sustain your attack against the city and bring it to ruin.’ Encourage him with this reply.””

The Sword Devours
One thing leads to another and before you know it many are affected by your actions.
Has that ever happened to you?
David’s action to stay home from battle led him down a very dark path. His statement, “…for the sword devours one as well as another.”, is a good description of the sword of sin.
What started with one man’s actions now has affected the decisions of the general and some of the soldiers.
God warned Cain in Genesis that sin lies at the door and its desire is for him, but that he must rule over it.
The sword devours any who plays with it.
David is quite pleased with himself and his ability to wield the sword of sin without getting caught.
Looking back at David we can easily see how he is being devoured by sin, but it happened little by little.
Be very careful which sword you choose to wield. The sword of sin or the sword of the Spirit which is the Word Of God.
Action Step
Consider your recent choices.
Are you playing with the right sword?
