The Rooster Crows
Mark’s gospel is the only one that records this first crow of the rooster and some versions leave it out.
Mark’s gospel is written from Peter’s story. He was there and Jesus said, “….before the rooster crows twice..”, so this is the first crow.
I think it is interesting that Jesus chose the crow of a rooster.
When you study a roosters behavior, you will find a lot of similarities to Peter’s personality.
Roosters are proud and can be loud. They crow to announce there presence, to warn their flock of danger, to assert dominance in the group or surrounding territory, and finally they crow just because they can.
Sounds like Peter, right?
It seems to me that Jesus used the rooster crow to remind Peter of who he was. He was not a man of shame. He wasn’t a man who hides or runs from a fight.
Peter was a leader. He was loud and proud.
Sometimes we make choices that go against our nature. Jesus wants us to know that He has called us out of hiding and shame.
There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus.
Romans 8:1
The rooster has become a symbol of hope and new beginnings. The dawning of a new day.
It is time to let go of your past mistakes and receive the forgiveness that Jesus is offering you.
Be proud of who you are in Christ. Strut your stuff and let’s hear you crow for Jesus.
