The power of a question.

Day 3

Mark9:20-22

Cross references

Mark 1:26, Matthew 9:28

The power of a question.

Jesus asked the boy’s father, “How long has it been since it came to him?” Or How long has he been like this?

Why did He ask?

Did Jesus need to know?

Was He stalling?

Why did He ask a question?

Compassion! Jesus didn’t need to know, He wanted to allow the boy’s father to get it all out. To spill it. All the pain, frustration and anguish he had been carrying all these years.

There is power in listening!

We seem to want to be the speaker most of the time, but it is very powerful to just listen. The power isn’t just in gaining knowledge, but in showing compassion to another.

Jesus wants us to tell Him all about it, every detail. Cast all your cares on Him because He cares for you.(1Peter 5:7-9)

Cast- an act of throwing something forcefully.

Does that sound like a little bit?

No. He wants us to let it all out. Pour out our hearts to Him. Not because He needs the info, but because we need to let go of it!

Read about the woman with the issue of blood in Mark 5.

In v. 23 it says she told Him the entire truth. The only way we know any of the details is because she told Him all about it.

Compassion. Jesus is a perfect listener!

His mercy endures forever!

No matter how long winded we are.
