Day3
1Samuel 25
Week 41
“The Lord has kept you from killing innocent people. As surely as the Lord lives and you as well, may your enemies and anyone else who wants to harm you be as cursed as Nabal is. Now, I am bringing this gift to you. Please give these things to your men. Please forgive me for doing wrong. I know the Lord will make your family strong because you fight his battles. People will never find anything bad about you as long as you live.”

The Door
Have you ever set out to go somewhere and it seemed that there were roadblocks and detours everywhere?
I remember trying to run away as a teenager. I had secretly packed up the car that my Mom had been letting me use. I thought I was home free, sitting in the driver’s seat about to turn the key in the ignition.
All of a sudden my Mom came rushing out of the house running towards me with a threat. “If you drive that car out of here, I will call the police and report it stolen.” She said sternly with fear and desperation in her voice. I opened the door of the car and threw the keys at her. I grabbed a bag and took off on foot only to return a few hours later. The flaw in my plan was that I told my sister what I was up to and she ratted me out.
God has a way of closing the door on our plans to protect us.
Many times, what looks like detours and road blocks are actually just God closing the door to protect us from ourselves or others.
Jesus is the door. John 10.
A good shepherd in Bible times became the gate or the door to the sheep pen. He would sleep in the opening in order to keep the sheep from wandering off and to keep predators from getting in. In other words, Jesus was saying, “If you want to get in or out, you have to go through me!”
God sent Abigail to be the door to protect David from his own pride and anger.
Can you think of a time when God saved you from yourself?
Action Step
Spend a few moments praising God and thanking Him for the door or doors in your life.
