That’s Ridiculous
Have you ever done something that others may think is ridiculous?
Has God ever moved you to give away a cherished item, maybe jewelry or shoes or possibly a large sum of money?
In my early days walking with the Lord, (I was in my early twenties) I had a goal to obtain 3 coats, 1 black, 1 tan, and 1 gray with boots to match each one.
You might think that’s ridiculous, but for me, growing up poor, that was something I longed for.
I set out to achieve my goal, working hard and by using lay-away (a type of financial agreement usually with a department store to make payments for an alloted time, while they hold the merchandise, before getting to take home the merchandise.). Eventually, I had success and had aquired all 3 coats and boots to match.
One day while wearing my black leather coat with a beautiful paisley, satin lining, a woman at our church choir practice admired my coat. She asked to touch it and went on and on about how pretty it was and how much she wished she could have a coat like that one day.
I was single at the time, while she was a young mother of 3 small children and her finances were strained.
God started tugging on my heart to give it to her.
”That’s ridiculous!”, I thought, but the urgency would not go away.
By the end of rehearsal, I stopped her on her way out, and by faith I gave her the jacket that I had worked so hard for.
I truly believe I received more from that obedience than she did from the jacket.
My story certainly pales in comparison to the ridiculous, faith story of the walls of Jericho.
God had been training them for years in the desert with simple acts of obedience that we can now recognize as faith exercises.
Is there a faith exercise that God has been tugging at your heart to do?
