Day4
Week7
1 Samuel
The man told Eli, “I’m the one who came from the battle. I fled from the front line today.” “What happened, son?” Eli asked. “Israel fled from the Philistines,” the messenger answered. “Our troops suffered heavy casualties. Your two sons, Hophni and Phinehas, also are dead, and the ark of God has been captured.” When the messenger mentioned the ark of God, Eli fell from his chair backwards toward the gate. He broke his neck, and he died. (The man was old and heavy.) He had judged Israel for 40 years.”
1 Samuel 4:16-18 GW
Cross references
1 Samuel 3:11;
1 Peter 4:17-18;
1 Corinthians 11:30-32
That’s Heavy!
The thing which I feared the most has come upon me and what I dreaded has happened to me.
Job 3:25
It’s interesting to me that in almost every translation of the Bible, the fact that Eli was a heavy or fat man is included.
It seems to be a physical description however I believe it is a spiritual condition as well.
2Tim. 3 Verses 16-17
All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: [17] That the man of God may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.
Eli was under a heavy amount of pressure.
He was carrying worry on his shoulders about his son’s behavior, his own disobedience in not dealing with his son’s, worry about his decision to allow the Ark of the Covenant to be taken to the battlefield…..
That’s heavy!
What are you carrying on your shoulders?
Can any of us add 1 hour to our lives by worrying? Matthew 6:27
Stress is the #1 contributor to sickness, disease and death.
That’s Heavy!
Are you carrying disobedience?
Repent and fix it.
Are you carrying concerns?
Toss your concerns on Him and let Him carry it.
We still have time to get out from under our heavy burdens.
Time is short, He is soon to return.
Action Step
Let go and let God.
Allow Holy Spirit to show you if you are in disobedience and if so, repent.
