Sweet Revenge

Romans 12:19-20 MEV

“Beloved, do not avenge yourselves, but rather give place to God’s wrath, for it is written: “Vengeance is Mine. I will repay,” says the Lord. Therefore “If your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him a drink; for in doing so you will heap coals of fire on his head.”“

‭‭

What is your first instinct when someone says something that hurts you?

If we are honest, most of us will say something back to hurt them, right?

God’s ways are not like our ways.

Sweet revenge has become a popular topic, but it is, in fact a lie.

Hollywood has done an excellent job of promoting how sweet revenge is by making movies and series that justify payback or vigilante behavior, enticing us to empathize with the victims, therefore believing it is okay to seek revenge and even portraying how satisfying it is to bring down the “bad guy” at all cost.

Forgiveness is not natural for the flesh, however we are not supposed to be living by the flesh are we?

As we mature spiritually, we also have to grow in the area of forgiveness.

We must give place to God’s wrath and let go of our own.

Our judgment is not “just”because we are looking through the lens of a sinful world.

Jesus’ way is mercy and love.

Spiritual maturity is evident when we walk in love.

Action Step

Breathe in slowly and exhale a big sigh of relief.

Thank God that it is not up to us to keep score and allow yourself to let go of your score card.

Open your hands and be free, In Jesus Name Amen.
