Stronghold of Comfort

Day2

Week8

2 Samuel

”So David occupied the stronghold, and he called it the City of David. He built on all sides from the terraces inward. David went on and became great, because the Lord, the God of Hosts, was with him. King Hiram of Tyre sent messengers to David with cedar wood, carpenters, and stonemasons, and they built a house for David. Then David understood that the Lord had appointed him king over Israel, and that He had exalted his kingdom for the sake of His people Israel. David took more concubines and wives in Jerusalem, after having come from Hebron, and they bore him more sons and daughters. These are the names of the children born to him in Jerusalem: Shammua, Shobab, Nathan, Solomon, Ibhar, Elishua, Nepheg, Japhia, Elishama, Eliada, and Eliphelet.

Stronghold of Comfort

Things are finally going well for David. He is settling in nicely.

Are things going good for you right now? If not, do you remember a time when they were?

We have a tendency to get comfortable fairly quickly when all is well. Don’t get me wrong, I am not against being comfortable, but it can be a trap if we let our guard down and take our eyes off of Jesus.

David took his eyes off of God’s word and the instructions for becoming king over God’s people. (Deuteronomy 17:17)

He took on more wives and concubines just like the surrounding nations.

When we are comfortable and all is well it is easy to fall back into the ways of the world around us. If everyone else is doing it, then it must be okay, right?

That line of thinking can quickly become a comfortable stronghold in our lives.

We are to work out our own salvation with fear and trembling. Philippians 2:12.

Not that we are to be afraid of God and damnation to hell, but that we would have an admiration and awe for our Savior and continue on in our daily lives working out the purpose of the Gospel as He has assigned a part to each of us.

Do not get caught up in a stronghold of comfort or distracted by things in the world.

Action Step

1.Stay in faith!

2.Remain focused on the promises in His Word!

3.Do not be distracted or deceived by the world!

John 15:4

Remain in Me, as I also remain in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, neither can you, unless you remain in Me.
