Day3
Week27
2 Samuel
“Then Ahimaaz the son of Zadok said, “Allow me to run and bring the news to the king that the Lord has delivered him from the hand of his enemies.” But Joab said to him, “You will not be a man who bears news today; you may bear news another day. Today you will not bear news because the king’s son is dead.” Then Joab said to the Cushite, “Go, report to the king what you have seen.” The Cushite bowed to Joab, then ran off. Ahimaaz again said to Joab, “Whatever may happen, let me run also, after the Cushite.” Then Joab said, “Why is it that you want to run, my son? There is no messenger’s reward for you to obtain.” “Whatever happens, I want to run.” So he said to him, “Run.” So Ahimaaz ran by way of the plain and passed the Cushite.”

Starved For Attention
Everyone wants a little attention now and again, right?
We can become starved for attention or at least feel that way when we focus on ourselves and our own needs.
Ahimaaz was excited about the victory and eager to deliver the good news, but even after being warned he didn’t consider the impact that the news might have on the king. He was thinking only of his own need for attention and praise.
How often do we shoot a quick witted comment to get a chuckle or spill the tea to feel good about ourselves and be “in the know”?
If you are starved for attention and engaging in this kind of behavior, then consider whose attention you are seeking.
The only attention that will fill us is the attention from our Heavenly Father. He’s waiting to fill us up.
Action Step
God, thank You for Your Word, which reveals areas of my life that desperately need Your correction. Send people into my life who will walk with me and sharpen me, as iron sharpens iron. Guide my tongue, so I speak with loving truth and intention to others. In Jesus' name, Amen.
