Spared
What is a covenant, exactly?
Covenant is a dominant theme in the Scriptures and serves as a foundation to the story of God’s people. In a literal sense, a covenant means a binding agreement, a legal contract. It is a seal between two or more parties. A covenant is a solemn promise between two parties.
In a biblical sense, the word covenant derives from the same root word meaning “to cut.” This means that in the culture of the Bible, covenant carried weight and was often cut, or sealed, in blood.🩸
Oaths are sworn affirmations that we will be true and faithful to our promises or covenants.
We are again seeing a picture of Jesus through the faithfulness of David.
Mephibosheth was spared because of the covenant or oath between David and Jonathan, Mephibosheth’s father.
We have been spared because of God’s faithfulness. Our covenant was cut with the purest blood of Jesus on the cross.
Action Step
True satisfaction in life is found only in Jesus.
Take a moment to think about your life.
Are there things that you're holding onto that you would be hesitant to surrender to Jesus? Are there relationships that serve your own desires rather than God's?
Commit to following Jesus regardless of how difficult or challenging life might become. The cross, while painful, is temporary— abundant life with Jesus is eternal.
“The words and promises of the Lord are pure words, like silver refined in an earthen furnace, purified seven times over.”
Psalm 12:6 AMPC
