Day2
Week19
2 Samuel
“Two full years later, the sheepshearers of Absalom were in Baal Hazor, near Ephraim, and Absalom invited all of the sons of the king. Then Absalom came to the king and said, “Behold, your servant has sheepshearers; will the king and his servants kindly go with your servant?” The king said to Absalom, “No, my son, we must not all go or we will be a burden to you.” When he urged him, he refused to go, but gave him his blessing. Absalom said, “If not, allow my brother Amnon to go with us.” But the king replied to him, “Why should he go with you?” But Absalom urged him until he sent Amnon and all of the king’s sons along with him. Now, Absalom had commanded his servant, “Look for Amnon to become carefree on account of the wine. Then I will say to you, ‘Strike Amnon, and kill him.’ Do not be afraid, for am not I myself commanding you? Be strong and brave.” So, the servants of Absalom did to Amnon that which Absalom had commanded. Then the sons of the king arose, each mounting his mule, and fled.”

Silent Ambition
Absalom had now silently nourished his revenge for “two full years.” No doubt he chose also to give full opportunity for his father to punish Amnon’s iniquity if he would; and by this long quiet waiting he so far disarmed suspicion that he was able to carry out his purpose.
Has revenge been a silent ambition in your heart?
Sheep shearing always was, and still is, a time of feasting.
This offered the perfect opportunity for Absalom’s silent ambition to raise its voice without suspicion.
It is wise to keep silent about negative thoughts, however if you are holding on to resentment or unforgiveness, you need to raise your voice to Jesus and let it go. There is no good that will come from holding onto to toxic thoughts and emotions.
Absalom used his power as the kings son to bring one of his servants into his evil plan and guilt.
Misery lives company, but peace can only be found in Jesus.
