Shadow or Image

Day1

Week 10

Hebrews 10

“For the law is a shadow of the good things to come, and not the very image of those things. It could never by the same sacrifices, which they offer continually year after year, perfect those who draw near. Otherwise, would they not have ceased to be offered, since the worshippers, once purified, would no longer be conscious of sins? But in those sacrifices there is an annual reminder of sins. For it is not possible for the blood of bulls and goats to take away sins. Therefore, when He came into the world, He said: “Sacrifices and offerings You did not desire, but a body You have prepared for Me. In burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin You have had no pleasure. Then I said, ‘See, I have come to do Your will, O God,’ as it is written of Me in the volume of the book.” Previously when He said, “You did not desire sacrifices and offerings. You have had no pleasure in burnt offerings and sacrifices for sin,” which are offered in accordance with the law, then He said, “See, I have come to do Your will, O God.” He takes away the first that He may establish the second. By this will we have been sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.“

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭10‬:‭1‬-‭10‬ ‭MEV‬‬

Shadow or Image

Previously we talked about the items inside the ark of the covenant being a reminder of the past in a negative light.

Today, I would like to contrast that with a positive spin.☀️

The Ark of The Covenant was a shadow of the good things to come, but they also painted an image of who God is and what we were intended to be.⛅️

· The manna reminded Israel of God’s provision and their ungratefulness.🥖

Provision

We can choose to focus on the fact that God is an incredible provider and the source of all hope!💙

· Aaron’s rod reminded Israel of their rebellion against God’s authority.🌸

Sovereignty 👑

God has reasons that we know nothing about for everything. He loves us and He knows what is best for us.

We can choose to trust His Sovereignty and seek His wisdom and light in our situation.

Pray for those in authority over you.

· The tablets of the covenant reminded Israel of their failure to keep the Ten Commandments and rest of the law.📝

Justice

We serve a just God who has written His laws on our hearts so that we can be aware of His faithfulness to forgive us each and every time we ask Him with a sincere and humble heart.❤️

The mercy seat: This was the ornate “lid” for the ark of the covenant, made with the designs of cherubim upon it. The blood🩸 of sacrifice was sprinkled upon it for the forgiveness of Israel’s sin on the Day of Atonement (Exodus 25:17-22).

Mercy

Jesus blood is continually not just covering, but cleansing us because He is alive!🙌🏻

By His mercy, God created a “body” through Mary, for Jesus to enter into the physical realm of our world.

This “body” was the first fruit of the New Covenant.

Are you walking in the shadow or image of God?

⛅️✝️

The first covenant was meant to be a shadow or temporary fix for the sin of mankind.

The Ark represented that shadow of what we were meant to be.

We were created to be image bearers of God showcasing His provision, sovereignty, justice and mercy. An image of Love.

When we are born again, we become, in a sense, the ark of the covenant. We have been restored into the image of Our Creator.✝️☀️💡

Jesus sits in Heaven on the mercy seat and Holy Spirit lives inside us.

We are the new Temple or Ark carrying the light, not just a shadow, but the image reflecting His light to the world.

Walk in the light as He is the light. 1 John 1:7

Action Step

Take ten deep breaths – with each inhale, pray silently “Jesus,” and on the exhale, pray, “I am Your image bearer”

Read 1 John 1:7 multiple times. Invite God to examine your heart and mind.

Form your prayer around anything God reveals to you (praise, confession, thanksgiving, requests).
