Sell Out

Day1

1Samuel 22

Week 37

“When Saul heard that David and the men who were with him were discovered, Saul was sitting in Gibeah under the tamarisk tree on the hill with his spear in his hand. And all his servants were standing about him. Saul said to his servants that stood about him, “Hear now, Benjamites! Will the son of Jesse give every one of you fields and vineyards? Will he appoint you all as captains of thousands and captains of hundreds? You have all conspired against me, and no one revealed to me that my son made a covenant with the son of Jesse. And not one of you is grieved for me and revealed it to me that my son raised up my servant against me to ambush me as at this day.” Then Doeg the Edomite, who was chief over the servants of Saul, answered and said, “I saw the son of Jesse coming to Nob, to Ahimelek the son of Ahitub. And he inquired of the Lord for him and gave him provisions. And he gave him the sword of Goliath the Philistine.””

Sell Out

Peer pressure is one thing we have all faced. Basically, it boils down to pride and self- preservation. Ouch!

The Edomite captain, Doeg was not quick to run to Saul with what he knew about David. He waited until there was not only pressure, but an opportunity that would benefit him. This is what they call a “sell out”. He was not loyal to anyone except for himself.

Are you a “sell out”?

What am I saying?

Do you acknowledge Jesus only when you are in the company of other Christians?

Does your prayer life look more like a Christmas list than a conversation of gratitude and praise?

We are all called to “sell out”, but the question is to whom?

Jesus gave all He had including his life for us. He was completely sold out to the will of His Father.

Salvation is a free gift, however it can only be received through a total “sell out”. A complete surrender of our will for His.

The time of His return is sooner than we think. It will not get easier to take a stand for Christ than it is right now.

Action Step

Ask Holy Spirit to show you your heart.

Do you need to “sell out”?

We all need a reminder to count the cost ( Luke 14:28) and renew our hearts and allegiance to the throne of Grace.

A simple prayer, “I’m sorry, Lord. Forgive me.” Is all that needs to be done.

What do you have to lose?
