Remain

David returned to what was left of Ziklag, which had become his refuge for the past year or so.

He remained there.

Have you ever returned to something familiar? An old hangout or place of comfort?

The Lord had allowed David’s comfortable existence in the enemy camp to be burned and destroyed.

We like to be comfortable, don’t we?

We have a tendency to drift back to the comfortable in our lives.

David did not just drift back. He remained.

David settled again in Ziklag, his own city, after he had rescued his family and friends out of the hands of the Amalekites (v. 1): He abode in Ziklag. Even though it had been burned David still returned to it.

We should be very careful where we go for comfort and where we remain.

The word remain is written five times in just two verses in the book of John 15:4-5.

Remain in Me, as I also remain in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it remains in the vine, neither can you, unless you remain in Me. “I am the vine, you are the branches. He who remains in Me, and I in him, bears much fruit. For without Me you can do nothing.“

‭‭

Action Step

Ask yourself where or what do you go to for comfort.

Be honest with yourself, God already knows.

True comfort is found as we go to and remain in Him.

”Blessed be God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies, and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our tribulation, that we may be able to comfort those who are in any trouble by the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God. As the sufferings of Christ abound in us, so our consolation also abounds through Christ.“
