Religious vs Relationship
This man approached Jesus looking for affirmation and approval for his keeping of the law and his own works.
He started off with flattery calling Jesus a good teacher.
This man must have known in his heart that he was missing the mark or else why ask, “What must I do to inherit eternal life?”
Jesus, from a heart of love and compassion for this man pointed out to him where his true love really was.
Jesus was not saying to the man that he couldn’t be rich to enter heaven, rather He was showing the man his own heart. The man was trusting in his religion ( keeping the law) and in his own wealth. The man trusted in and loved his money more than God.
Are we trusting in our religion?(obeying all the rules, but holding on to unforgiveness?)
Are we trusting in our riches?(look at your personal spending and you will see where your heart is. They say” follow the money “)
Ask yourself, "Have I had an opportunity to give, but didn’t for fear I wouldn’t have enough for myself and my family?"
Ask God to show you were your heart is?
Jesus wants us to trust Him. God is love. This is the beginning of relationship.
