Week25

2 Samuel

“David came to Mahanaim as Absalom crossed the Jordan, he and every Israelite with him. Now Absalom had placed Amasa over the army in the place of Joab. Now Amasa was the son of a man named Jether the Ishmaelite, who went in to Abigail the daughter of Nahash and sister of Zeruiah, the mother of Joab. Israel and Absalom camped in the land of Gilead.”

Refuge

Mahanaim-The city was located in Trans-Jordan, on the border of Gad and Manasseh, and was one of six cities of refuge in the Hebrew Bible. The cities of refuge were places where people who unintentionally committed murder could go to avoid blood revenge.

The city's name means "two hosts" or "two camps" and was given to it by Jacob after he met "the angels of God" there.

We live in a constant war with two camps. Our own will and the will of our King.

If we are honest, we have a lot more in common with Absalom than we would care to admit.

Jesus made a way through the shedding of His blood, by a traitor’s death on the cross, for us to find not only refuge, but complete reconciliation with the Father.

Action Step

May the Holy Spirit open your eyes to see the God who has anointed Jesus as our King. And may you see King Jesus as a merciful King who died so that traitors can live.

God, I confess I often do all the talking, and I don't always expect or listen for an answer.

Thank you for always paying attention, always listening, and always ready to respond and give guidance. Speak, Lord, Your servant is listening. Please give me ears to hear what You are saying. Amen.
