“So David and his men continued on the road, and Shimei went along on the hillside beside them, cursing, throwing stones, and flinging dust at them as he went. The king and all of the people who were with him arrived at their destination exhausted, but he refreshed himself there.”

Refreshed

I’m reminded of the faithfulness of God during times of great testing and because I know that God is faithful, I am refreshed.

Are you enduring suffering, pile on pressure or persecution?

God is faithful!

David experienced torment physically and emotionally on his journey, but he was refreshed when he reached his destination.

Our ultimate destination is eternity with God, but here on earth our destination is the loving arms of Jesus and the gift of Sabbath rest from our Father.

James tells us to count it all joy when we experience these challenges and pressures, because our Father is using them to purify us and draw us into His rest where we can be refreshed even during the most intense times of our lives.

It is only possible to enter His rest by flipping our focus onto Him and letting go of the cares and worries that are weighing us down.

Action Step

  1. Make a list of a few things that you like about God’s character.

  2. Think of a time that you have experienced that character trait.

  3. Thank Him for it.

Pray like this:

God, thank You for allowing me to experience trials. And thank You for refining my faith through them. When I go through hard situations, please lead me away from temptation by giving me the strength to endure.

Remind me of the joy set before me: the purification of my character and eternity spent with You. In Jesus' name, Amen.
