Day2

Week2

2 Samuel

”Your splendor, O Israel, has been slain upon your hills. How the mighty ones have fallen. Do not report it in Gath, do not announce it in the streets of Ashkelon, lest the daughters of the Philistines rejoice, or the daughters of the uncircumcised exult.“

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭1‬:‭19‬-‭20‬ ‭MEV‬‬

Micah 1:10;

1 Samuel 18:6

Quiet

Have you ever been tempted to “serve the tea” so to speak?

The gossip is just so juicy you cannot contain yourself?

David is instructing them not to report what they have heard, to be quiet. Wait a minute! They are wailing and weeping in grief, right? How can they be quiet?

Quiet about the gossip. Do not report or tell the story of the death of Saul, Jonathan and the defeat of the Israelite army.

You may be thinking that David would have much to gain by spreading this story, right?

One reason why David was referred to as a man after Gods’ own heart is because David was not concerned about his own gain. He was concerned about the reputation of his God and people.

Do we consider how it may reflect on God when we gossip?

What about whether or not what we are saying brings honor to the person we are talking about?

David had every reason to rejoice over Saul’s death, however he didn’t.

He didn’t exult himself into power.

He didn’t take advantage of favorable circumstances for his own gain.

Is it any wonder that, though David was far from perfect, God used him time and again to teach us?

Action Step

Do you struggle with controlling your tongue?

You are not alone.

“But thanks be to God who gives us victory through our Lord Jesus Christ!”

1 Corinthians 15:57

Ask God to show you what He wants to give you victory over today.

Thank Him for working all things out for His glory and your good, as you align yourself with His purpose.
