Open Door Policy
Throughout Jesus ministry, He lived in Capernaum. The house they entered was most likely His. The head quarters of His ministry.
He and His disciples were home after a long journey where many exciting things happened.
The disciples once again had been arguing, this time with each other.
This sounds like my siblings and I or my children.
How easy it is for pride to slip into our lives.
Jesus called them out on this. He used it as a teaching moment about His Kingdom. A servants heart.
Then He called a child to Him.
Where did the child come from?
They were in the house.
I think that Jesus had an open door policy and that people were welcome in His home anytime.
Maybe the child was an orphan who had wandered in. Jesus said, “whoever receives one of “these children” in my name receives me.”
We don’t know for sure, but we do know that Jesus has a heart for the orphan and the widow.
The point is:
Is your heart an open door?
Are you striving to be first, to get all your needs met or the needs of your loved ones?
Jesus, help us to think of others and let us remember to think like a child who always goes to their father when they need something.
