On the way
Ever notice how many interesting things happen “On the way” to a destination?
I am usually so intent on getting from point a to point b that I miss the blessings along the way.
Most of Jesus ministry miracles happen on the way to somewhere.
The disciples are marveling at what Jesus had just taught about Kingdom finances and blessings and the people following were afraid. Jesus had just told them to give up everything to follow Him and you would be blessed 100 times more, but there would be persecution with it.
In case that wasn’t enough, now
“On the way”, He is telling them He will be basically tortured and killed when they arrive at their destination. He did conclude that He would rise on the third day, but if they are anything like me; they most likely stopped listening after hearing that my friend and teacher and leader is going to be killed.
It is difficult for us to comprehend looking back at these accounts how they didn’t get it.
They were in the dark. They didn’t have a copy of the scripture in the palm of their hand to refer to.
They didn’t have the Holy Spirit living on the inside of them guiding them like we do.
Look at all that happens in your car on the way to your destination.
Is there arguing?
Kids laughing and picking at each other?
Do you notice the landscape that you are passing by.
Are you relishing each moment with your travel companions?
What if one of them said to you, “When we arrive, I am going to be tortured and killed. Don’t worry though, I will rise on the third day.”?
