Week 12

Hebrews 11

”Faith moved Abel to choose a more acceptable sacrifice to offer God than his brother Cain, and God declared him righteous because of his offering of faith. By his faith, Abel still speaks instruction to us today, even though he is long dead.“

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭11‬:‭4‬ ‭TPT‬‬

On Purpose

Cain and Abel were the first recorded children of Adam and Eve.

They were born after the first sin and exile from the garden of Eden.

How did they know to bring an offering?

The only explanation that makes sense is that their parents taught them.

They both had the same parents, but Abel saw faith in the story of God providing for his parents through the blood sacrifice of an animal, while Cain focused on the punishment of exile.

Abel was called righteous by God because by faith he chose a blood sacrifice to offer God.

He followed the example God taught his parents back in the garden. By faith he believed and acted.

Abel’s blood cried out to God from the ground as did every righteous man who’s blood was sprinkled on the ground prematurely in death.

Abel was declared righteous by God, but his blood was not willingly given up. It was taken.

Jesus blood was not declared righteous, but was perfectly righteous!

His righteous blood was shed by faith on purpose.

Animal sacrifices are not willfully given, but taken.

Jesus is the author and finisher of our faith.

His perfectly righteous blood covered the ground and by faith cleanses us from all unrighteousness!

By faith we lay down our life or will to follow Him and receive the blood sacrifice for our sin.

Without faith, we can not receive anything from God.

The blood of Jesus bought the opportunity for salvation; a new and better covenant.

Without faith, we cannot receive it.

To be born again into this new and better covenant, we have to choose, by faith, on purpose to receive it.

Action Step

Use your faith to talk to God today.

Sit with Him and think about what stands out to you from today’s lesson and allow God to enlarge your faith.
