On Fire

Day3

Week21

2 Samuel

“Then he said to his servants, “See, Joab’s field is next to mine, and he has barley there. Go, set it on fire.” So the servants of Absalom set the field on fire. Then Joab arose, came to Absalom at his house, and said to him, “Why have your servants set my plot of land on fire?” Absalom said to Joab, “Behold, I sent a message to you, saying: Come, so that I may send you to the king, asking, ‘Why have I come from Geshur? It would be better for me to be there still.’ Now, let me go before the king, and if there is still guilt with me, may he put me to death.” So Joab came and reported this to him. Then he summoned Absalom. So he came to the king, bowed low to him, his face on the ground before the king; then the king kissed Absalom.”

On Fire

It may take drastic measures to get our attention focused on the right things.

Is your heart on fire for Jesus?

God loves us and will not harm us, but when we get caught up in the distractions of this life it opens us up to the schemes of the enemy and he will stop at nothing to get your attention off of Jesus.

Do you rush through your devotional or prayer time because you have so much on your plate?

Joab’s barley field being set on fire represents a common practice of the enemy. He is trying to get our attention and deceive us into thinking that God is the one who set our field on fire.

When we keep our heart burning for Jesus our priorities will reflect it and we won’t fall for the enemy’s tricks.

God loves us and protects us from harm.

Psalm 91 is proof of that.

Let us keep our hearts fixed on Jesus and dwell under the safety of His mighty wings.

Action Step

Read Psalm 91 and think about what it means for you as you go about your day.
