Obedience Is Freedom

Day3

Week4

Hebrews4

“Now if this promise of “rest” was fulfilled when Joshua brought the people into the land, God wouldn’t have spoken later of another “rest” yet to come. So we conclude that there is still a full and complete Sabbath-rest waiting for believers to experience. As we enter into God’s faith-rest life we cease from our own works, just as God celebrates his finished works and rests in them.”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭4‬:‭8‬-‭10‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Obedience Is Freedom

Where is this freedom if I have to obey?

How can I rest if I am under someone else’s will?

The real question is, “Who?”.

Obedience is freedom only when the will we are obedient to belongs to Jesus.

On the seventh day of creation, bringing it to completion, God rested. Faith rest is rooted in the same concept – God completed all that needs to be done. No more striving to make ourselves better or working to be good so we can enter His presence. It is finished; we can rest.

At first glance, we don’t view obedience as freedom. But in reality, true freedom only comes through obedience to Christ.

In his book “New Morning Mercies”, Paul David Tripp says this, “We were never hardwired to be free, if by ‘freedom’ we mean an independent, self-sufficient life.

We were created by God to be connected to something vastly bigger than ourselves…God in grace doesn’t set you free, because he knows you wouldn’t be free.

You and I would quickly enslave ourselves once again.

His absolute rulership over every area of our lives is not a deadening law but a life-giving grace.

He is freeing us from our slavery to what is not true and cannot deliver…It really is true – his call to obey is a tool of his rescuing grace.”

Are you struggling along under your burdens?

Are you worried, anxious, and full of fear?

Are you trying to figure out how you can “fix” problems you see in your life?

Our God longs for us to share all our concerns with Him, to the point that we give them to Him and leave them in His hands. Only He can truly care for the issues we face.

Obedience is freedom and faith rest is not something we can manufacture by our own human efforts.

The confidence produced by our faith in Him and His love for us can only be found when we are looking at Him.

As we keep our eyes on Him and believe Him, we will find ourselves entering this place of rest promised to us in the book of Hebrews.
