Not Just Any Word

Day5

Week 7

Hebrews 7

“Unlike the former high priests, he is not compelled to offer daily sacrifices. They had to bring a sacrifice first for their own sins, then for the sins of the people, but he finished the sacrificial system, once and for all, when he offered himself. The law appointed flawed men as high priests, but God’s promise, sealed with his oath, which succeeded the law, appoints a perfect Son who is complete forever!”

‭‭Hebrews‬ ‭7‬:‭27‬-‭28‬ ‭TPT‬‬

Not Just Any Word

What exactly is an oath?

It is a promise sworn by someone greater than oneself. A word spoken and backed with authority.

In today’s passage the author explains how God’s promise, sealed with His oath which came after the law is complete forever!

God’s oath is not just any word or promise. This oath is The Word, made flesh. Jesus Himself.

God entered into covenant with King David.

(2Samuel 7)

David’s heart was to build a physical house for God rather than a mere tent.

God honored David’s heart by pointing out that He (God) never asked for a house or complained about dwelling in a tent.

Because of David’s heart to bless God, God blessed David with an oath. He entered into a covenant with David and promised that He would instead bring about a house for David. “…I will raise up after you an offspring from your body and I will establish his rule. …I will establish his royal throne forever.”

Jesus is that seed and The Word made flesh.

Once for all! God’s promise sealed by not just any word, but The Word, Jesus a perfect sacrifice.

Complete forever!

What a loving God we serve. We can not out give God!

God flipped it!

David was on to something here. He longed for a better dwelling place for God.

Instead God built a house, an eternal kingship for David and in the process also established a house for Himself in our hearts.

God was longing for a house, but not a physical building, He wanted to dwell in our hearts.

Jesus made that possible and now Holy Spirit lives in us.
