Day4
Week26
1Samuel 16
“When they came, he looked on Eliab, and said, “Surely the anointed of the Lord is before Him.” But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees not as man sees. For man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks on the heart.” Then Jesse called Abinadab, and made him pass before Samuel. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” Then Jesse made Shammah to pass by. And he said, “Neither has the Lord chosen this one.” So Jesse made seven of his sons pass before Samuel. And Samuel said to Jesse, “The Lord has not chosen these.””

Not Chosen
Have you ever looked at a situation based on the facts in front of you and it seemed like a sure thing?
Maybe it was an investment opportunity or a new job or a the purchase of a vehicle.
Everything looks fantastic, but then as it unravels with problem after problem you wonder, “How could something that looked so right go so wrong?”
Jesus entire life was not what it seemed.
It looked like the end, but it was the beginning for us!
As I look out at the beautiful pink sunrise this morning, I am reminded that beautiful in my eyes maybe actually be a warning of trouble to come.
The saying goes, “Red sunset at night, sailors’ delight; red sunrise at dawning, sailors take warning!”
We can not trust our physical senses when it comes to spiritual matters.
On Monday we read about God telling Samuel to fill his horn with oil and go.
In order to effectively discern a situation we have to fill ourselves with the oil of God’s Word and His presence.
If you want to effect a physical circumstance with spiritual power, you have to fill yourself up.
Action Step
What are you willing to do to fill your horn with oil?
Choose 1 activity to give up in the next few days and replace it with time reading the Bible, praying and praising God.
