Day4
1Samuel 26
Week42
“Then the Ziphites came to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is David not hiding himself on the hill of Hakilah, which is before Jeshimon?” Then Saul arose and went down to the Wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul camped on the hill of Hakilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the road. But David stayed in the wilderness, when he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness. And David sent out spies and knew that Saul had certainly come. So David arose and came to the place where Saul had camped. And David saw the place where Saul was lying down and Abner son of Ner, the commander of his army. Saul was lying down in the encampment, while the people encamped around him.”

Mouthful
The Ziphites were from the tribe of Judah as was David. These people were his relatives, yet they chose to betray him twice.
The Hebrew meaning to their name, “Ziph” is “mouthful”. Evidently they couldn’t keep their mouth shut. A mouthful of deception.
They were a people who were self-serving. What’s in it for me?
They seemed to think that King Saul could offer them more than their brother David, so they gave him up.
What about God? Did they consider His will in the matter? Apparently not.
Have you ever been betrayed? Have you ever betrayed someone?
Thank God for His mercy!
I think we can all agree that we have all betrayed Jesus.
It is easy to judge others. Let us keep our eyes on our own hearts and focus on what Jesus is asking of us. Fill our mouths with praise for Him!
Action Step
Take a few moments and make a mental list of reasons to be grateful to God. Even better, write it down.
Fill your mouth with words and songs of gratitude and praise to Him.
