Mizpah

Day3

Week11

1Samuel 7

“Then Samuel said, “Gather all Israel to Mizpah, and I will pray to the Lord for you.” They gathered together to Mizpah. And they drew water and poured it out before the Lord. And they fasted on that day, and said there, “We have sinned against the Lord.” So Samuel judged the children of Israel in Mizpah.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭7‬:‭5‬-‭6‬ ‭MEV‬‬

Mizpah

The Hebrew meaning of mizpah is watchtower.

This place in Israel was a significant meeting place which represents covenant, revenge and repentance.

For more insight, I have included a link below.

Why pour out water? Water had a significant meaning to the Israelites that may not be obvious to us who take it for granted. Water was not to be found just anywhere and was therefore extremely valuable. Without it one cannot live. To pour it out, especially while traveling across the vast desert, was to pour out one’s life. When it disappeared into the desert sand it could not be recovered.

They also fasted without food as well.

Until this point, the people were only half- hearted.

They kind of trusted God, but they liked their lifestyle and the comfort of fitting into the culture of their neighbors.

At Mizpah that day, they poured out all their heart and repented. They were all in! No more lukewarm riding the fence.

Action Step

Consider making a fast and renewing your commitment to your God.

Pour out all your life, your agenda, your opinions, your thoughts, everything!

Revelation 3:15-16, I know your works: you are neither cold nor hot. Would that you were either cold or hot! So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth.

Matthew 12:30 Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters.
