Longing 4 You

Updated: Nov 13, 2023

Week 4

Day3

P.R.A.Y.

Y is for yearning

This is our fourth and final week taking a deep dive into prayer.

Psalm 42:1 “To the choirmaster. A Maskil of the Sons of Korah. As a deer pants for flowing streams, so pants my soul for you, O God.”

Just like the patriarchs of old, we too should “desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city” (Heb 11:16).

Imagine a deer that’s been running for his life and then finding water, desperately pants for a drink. David, in the same way, was constantly running for his life as the evil King Saul pursued him. David panted for his God to bring him deliverance but there is more to it than that. David longed for God in a way that is decidedly different from that of the hope of Jesus’ appearance. It is a deep, abiding longing for God.

Do we have such a longing for His return and to see him some day?

Hope is an expectancy for something that has not yet happened. Longing is a deep desire, a yearning or almost an obsession for the expected outcome.

Are you longing for home?

Are you consumed with desire to finally see Jesus face to face?

Do you think about what it will be like?

Are you prepared?

Watch your dog when they are thirsty. They pant and long for water.

Action Step:

Meditate on this concept today.

Ask Holy Spirit to fill you with a longing, a yearning desire for Jesus.

Sing praises to Him and be filled with His presence.
