Day4
Week6
2 Samuel
”Afterward when David heard of this, he said, “My kingdom and I are forever blameless before the Lord for the blood of Abner the son of Ner. May it fall upon the head of Joab and upon all his father’s house. May the house of Joab never be without one who has a discharge, or who is a leper, or who leans on a staff, or who falls by the sword, or who lacks food.” So Joab and his brother Abishai killed Abner, because he killed Asahel their brother at Gibeon in the battle. David said to Joab and all of the people with him, “Tear your clothes, put on sackcloth, and mourn before Abner.” As for King David, he followed behind the bier. When they buried Abner at Hebron, the king raised his voice and wept at the grave of Abner, and all of the people wept. Then, the king lamented for Abner, saying, “Should Abner have died as a fool dies? Your hands were not bound, and your feet were not put in fetters; as a man falls before the wicked, so you have fallen.” And all of the people continued to weep over him.“

It Was Justified
Isn’t it funny how we all tend to think our actions are justified?
Who really gets to decide if it was justified?
”Every way of a man is right in his own eyes, but the Lord weighs the hearts.“
Proverbs 21:2 MEV
There is so much political intrigue and so many plot twists in this story.
Don’t you just love the Bible?!
Whether it is personal or political, the struggle for power and advantage is nothing new.
Who can be trusted?
Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not to your own understanding.
In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will make your path straight.
Proverbs 3:5-6
Back in chapter 2 we read that David consulted the Lord. It hasn’t been recorded that he did again so far in the story. It would appear that he and the other characters are relying on their own understanding and emotions to make decisions.
Have you ever been there?
A big mess has unfolded for every leading character in the story. I am certain that they all thought that their actions were justified.
What about you? Do you think your actions are justified?
Action Step
Is there something you need to trust the Lord with?
Have you acknowledged Him in the matter?
Even the tiniest things in our lives are important to God and He expects us to act with integrity.
Take a moment to acknowledge Him and ask Him if there is any area where you need to make adjustments.
