Day4
Week12
1Samuel 8
“The Lord said to Samuel, “Obey the voice of the people in relation to all that they say to you. For it is not you they have rejected, but Me they have rejected from reigning over them. Just as all the deeds which they have done to Me, from the day I brought them up from Egypt even to this day, in that they have forsaken Me and have served other gods, so they are doing also to you now. Now then, obey their voice. Only you will testify against them and proclaim to them the judgment concerning the king who will reign over them.””

It’s Me
There is a popular pop song out by Taylor Swift from her “Anti - Hero” album called, “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, it’s me.”
The concept of this song is that we are the blame for the mess we are in and one of the catchy lines is this;
“I stare directly at the sun, but never in the mirror.”
I think it describes the human condition pretty well.
Samuel found himself looking in the mirror.
He knew he had made mistakes and he blamed himself.
The people had rejected God as their King and Samuel said to God basically, “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem, It’s me.”
God’s answer is somewhat surprising.
God tells Samuel, “It’s Me, hi, I’m the answer they don’t want to see.”
Did Samuel make mistakes?
Absolutely! We all do.
Was he right in looking in the mirror?
Absolutely! We all should.
That is not the end, though.
The song, although a catchy tune, is missing an essential ingredient.
The answer.
God is always the answer we need in every situation.
Like the people of Israel, we are usually looking for an easy , convenient or immediate fix.
Admitting that you need help is the first step, but surrendering to the One who is the answer is step #2.
The answer is often not what we want or expect or are willing to wait for.
Isaiah 55,
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways," declares the LORD. "As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.
Jesus is the Answer!
Action Step
In order to receive salvation we have to surrender and make Jesus Lord of our lives.
That is not the end, rather the beginning.
In each situation or circumstance of our lives we again have to surrender to the answer, Jesus.
Search your heart. God’s ways are not our ways.
Are you looking for a physical “king” in your situation?
$, attempting to manipulate people or circumstances, etc.?
Are you answering, “It’s me, hi, I’m the problem. It’s me.”?
Are you trying to control or be “king” of your circumstance?
Stuck asking questions like: How? Why? When?
Allow Jesus to have control or He will let you handle it.
