Integrity

Day3

1Samuel 24

Week 39

“Afterward David’s heart troubled him because he had cut off a corner of Saul’s robe. He said to his men, “The Lord forbid that I should do this thing to my Lord, the Lord’s anointed, to stretch out my hand against him. For he is anointed of the Lord.” So David dispersed his men by these words and did not let them rise against Saul. And Saul arose from the cave and went on his way.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭24‬:‭5‬-‭7‬ ‭MEV‬‬

Integrity

Can you imagine what David’s men must be thinking?

Would they say, “Wow! A man of great integrity!” Or “You have got to be kidding me! This is your chance, take it!”

They were on the run also. They were risking their lives because of King Saul. I’m sure they could taste the relief that would come from ending Saul’s reign.

They were so close to victory.

This is a picture of dedication and restraint by David’s men.

They chose to follow his lead.

What if your enemy was within your grasp?

Maybe you are in an argument and you have the best comeback that would humiliate your opponent. Do you let it fly out of your mouth like an arrow straight through their heart?

We aren’t in the same type of battle as David or his men, but never the less we are in a battle.

Daily we make choices that display our integrity or lack of it.

Jesus is our King and He asks us to love our enemies.

Are we showing dedication and restraint like David’s men?

Our real battle is not against other humans. Love is the equalizer. When we can choose to love in the heat of the moment, then we have chosen integrity.
