Day3
1Samuel 25
Week 40
“And Nabal answered David’s servants, and said, “Who is David? And who is the son of Jesse? Today many servants are breaking away each one from his master. Should I then take my bread, and my water, and my meat, that which I have killed for my shearers, and give it to men whose origins are unknown?” So David’s young men turned themselves around and went back. And they came and reported to him all these words.”

Insult
Sheep shearing was a “harvest season” for a sheep owner. It was a traditional time of celebration and generosity.
Nabal knew who David was. Everyone did. He was famous throughout the land. His claim to ignorance was a direct insult. He doubled down on the insult accusing David of rebellion and breaking away from his master.
Have you ever been intentionally insulted?
Traditionally during the shearing celebrations, generosity was the norm.
David waited until then to ask for compensation for his services. He asked politely and respectfully, but was met with insults.
How would you respond?
David chose restraint when he was attacked by Saul, his superior. We will see what he chooses for Nabal tomorrow.
Jesus calls all of us to show restraint regardless of who is dishing out the insults. By doing this, we are actually choosing to trust God rather than taking matters into our own hands.
If you are like me; you have work to do in this area.
Action Step
God hears your prayers.
Invite Him into the midst of whatever you are dealing with today.
Nothing is off-limits. Pray about anything.
