Idols

Day1

Week19

1Samuel 12

All the people said to Samuel, “Pray for your servants to the Lord your God, that we will not die, for we have added to all our sins this evil, to ask for ourselves a king.” Samuel said to the people, “Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness, only do not turn aside from following the Lord, and serve the Lord with all your heart. But do not turn aside, for then you would be going after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing.”

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭12‬:‭19‬-‭21‬ ‭MEV‬‬

Idols

What benefit is there from praying and giving honor to an idol made by man?

What benefit is there to turning our desires into idols by trying to control outcomes?

There is no difference between creating an idol out of wood or metal and allowing our own will and desires to control our lives making ourselves into idols.

The idea is the same. We essentially get to be the boss in both cases.

Is your trust in the Lord or in yourself?

It seems like an easy question, however if we are honest, most of the time our choices make us idol worshippers

Do not fear. You have done all this wickedness, only do not turn aside from following the Lord, and serve the Lord with all your heart. But do not turn aside, for then you would be going after empty things which cannot profit or deliver, for they are nothing.”
