Hungry and Thirsty
Have you ever been thirsty
and nothing could quench your thirst? You may have taken a medication that gave you a dry mouth or maybe you were not near a supply of water for a period of time.
How did you feel?
What about hunger? Have you ever said “I’m starving! When are we going to eat?”
How did you feel?
That feeling, that longing for the discomfort to end. Wanting to be satisfied.
That is how are spirit needs to feel towards the things of God.
Our spirit doesn’t have the same hunger pangs as our physical senses.
The symptoms may show up in physical ways though. You may feel tired, drained or even exhausted. You may be easily agitated or irritable.
Frustration settles in and you feel like giving up.
These symptoms are symptoms of spiritual hunger and thirst.
We get to choose how we try to satisfy these symptoms just like we choose our physical diet. Healthy or comfortable.
The healthy spiritual choice is to pray, read and study God’s Word, attend church regularly, confess, affirm and proclaim God’s Word out loud over yourself and your circumstance, watch or listen to faith messages or worship music…
The other choice is to try to satisfy your spirit with physical things like sleep, comfort food, tv drama, news programs, gossip, a strong drink or two….
God wants us to long for Him. Our spirit inside of us longs for spiritual food. When we listen to the symptoms, and fill that longing with the things of God, then there will be satisfaction.
Ask God to fill you with a desire for more of Him. You may need to ask Him for a desire to desire more of Him. He is faithful and He will answer you! God provides good things for His children! He has a table prepared for you. Pull up a chair today and eat. Drink from the fountain that never runs dry.
You choose!
