Day3
1 Thessalonians 5:7-8
“For those who are asleep sleep the night away, and drunkards get drunk at night. But since we belong to the day, we must stay alert and clearheaded by placing the breastplate of faith and love over our hearts, and a helmet of the hope of salvation over our thoughts.”
1 Thessalonians 5:7-8 TPT
Cross references
Acts 2:15; Isaiah 59:17
Where is your helmet?
Do you remember your parents or friend ever asking you to where a helmet when you ride a motorcycle or bicycle?
Maybe you asked that of your children?
Why?
To protect them from brain injury! To keep them safe.
Let me ask you, are you wearing your helmet?
Not a physical helmet, but your spiritual helmet. The helmet of salvation.
Salvation does not just refer to saving from eternal damnation or separation from God.
The Greek word here is “sozo” this means :
Save or saved, whole, healed, preserve, well.
What thoughts are you allowing to run free in your mind?
Are they thoughts of good?
Thoughts of confusion, doubt, fear, disbelief, worry?
If your thoughts look more like the second example, then you probably are not properly wearing your head gear or helmet.
The battle between our ears is the most dangerous one of all.
Why?
Every choice you make starts with a thought.
We can choose our thoughts or at least choose to take the thought captive and cast it down or keep thinking about it.
How do I tighten up my chin strap?
Pray, read God’s Word, memorize scriptures and most importantly speak or confess your faith!
Thoughts can only be replaced by saying something out-loud.
Start reciting the alphabet silently. ( before you finish)
Say God bless you out loud.
What happened to the alphabet?
Once you speak, your speech takes over. It’s that simple.
Action Step:
Try the above exercise.
When an ugly thought comes in, say out loud, "No! I won’t think that way."
Now say the scripture that you are memorizing this week.
Put your helmet on and tighten that strap!!!!
