Hangry
Have you ever been hangry? Hungry and unable to think clearly making you irritable and angry ?
Our story continues to unfold and we are seeing tensions develop rapidly.
Yesterday we read how Jonathan made excuses for his actions and spoke disrespectful things about his father the king.
You may think, “ So what! He is entitled to his opinion.”
Let’s look at how well that plays out in our story.
Saul declared a fast and Jonathan declared his father was foolish in front of the men who served under him and encouraged them that they would be stronger, like him if they would have eaten. (Disobeyed the king)
Now we read that because the men were hangry after a victorious battle they rushed in and not only broke the kings fast, but also rebelled against God by knowingly eating the blood in their food. (This was against God’s laws found in Leviticus)
I guess they were so hangry that they couldn’t wait for it to cook.
Okay, so the people wanted a king to lead them instead of God.
Now the king gives an order and they disobey him and God.
Do you ever get in a hurry and allow those around you who are talking negatively to influence your decisions?
What if Jonathan would have manned up and apologized to his men and upheld his father’s orders?
Regardless if we agree with those in authority over us or not, it matters what we say.
Hangry or not, we have a responsibility to do what is right in God’s eyes.
