Habit Slave

a mug spilling out the phrase, doing my best.

Day2

Week28

1Samuel 17

“He stood and called out to the ranks of Israel, “Why have you come out to line up for battle? Am not I the Philistine, and you the servants of Saul? Choose for yourselves a man and let him come down to me. If he is able to fight with me and to strike me down, then we will be your servants. But if I prevail against him and strike him down, then you will be our servants and will serve us.””

‭‭1 Samuel‬ ‭17‬:‭8‬-‭9‬ ‭MEV‬‬

1Samuel 8:17;

1Samuel 11:1

Habit Slave

The Philistine, Goliath was jeering at the Israelite soldiers making fun of them for being slaves to their king, Saul.

Basically he was saying, “Why are you lined up to fight against me? Wouldn’t I make a better master than this coward you call your king, Saul?”

Isn’t it ironic that Israel was free, following only God Almighty and they whined, begging for a human king. They were warned that a human king would make them slaves, but they wanted to be able to see a physical king to trust in.

They were given what they asked for and now we find them being ridiculed for their pathetic choice.

Are you slave to a habit?

Where do you go to for comfort, advice, pleasure, provision…..

If your first response wasn’t God, you have a master in that area.

I had to admit, a few years back that I was allowing Coca Cola to shepherd me.

I know it sounds ridiculous, but my first response to stress, discomfort, anxiety, tiredness, pretty much everything was to pop a Coke over ice and let the fizz erase whatever I was facing.

Let me just say, “Coke ”makes a pretty lame leader!

God wants our attention first. He has all the answers when we ask Him.

He doesn’t necessarily provide immediate relief, but he does provide real lasting answers.

Action Step

Ask yourself, who is your king?

You may be surprised

I know I was!
