Week17

2 Samuel

“Now Joab fought against Rabbah of the Ammonites and assumed control of the royal city. So Joab sent messengers to David and reported, “I have fought against Rabbah, and I have occupied the water supply of the city. Now gather the remainder of the people, lay siege to the city, and take it. Otherwise, I myself will capture the city, and it will be called by my name.””

Guilt Trip

Joab is playing politics again. He is taunting David into taking his place on the battlefield with a guilt trip.

Has anyone ever used a guilt trip to get you to do what they wanted?

The reason a guilt trip works is because there is some truth to it.

It seems as though Joab was tired of doing all the work and David getting all the glory.

The truth is that Joab was successful only because God’s favor was on him and his men because of David.

Action Step

If you are feeling pressured by guilt, stop and pray it through. If you’re wrong and you are guilty, repent, but it could be a twisted truth and you have no need to feel guilty.
