Day3
Week19
2 Samuel
“While they were on the way, the report reached David: “Absalom struck down all of the sons of the king, and there is not one of them remaining.” Then the king arose, tore his garments, and lay on the ground, while all of his servants who were standing nearby tore their garments. But Jonadab, the son of David’s brother Shimeah, said, “My Lord should not think that they have killed all of the servants who are the king’s sons. Amnon alone is dead, for this has been determined from the day he raped Tamar, his sister, by the very declaration of Absalom. Now, my Lord the king should not take this matter to heart, thinking that all of the king’s sons are dead. Instead Amnon alone is dead.””
2 Samuel 13:30-33 MEV

Gossip
Rumors spread fast, especially when they are not true. It’s amazing how word reached the king before any of his sons who fled the seen had arrived to tell him.
Have you ever been involved or affected by gossip?
It can be tempting to participate in and even gratifying for an instant, but it always leads to distress or disaster for someone.
We must be careful not to get involved, not even a little bit. We talked about gray areas last week. As tempting as it may be, it is never worth it!
Action Step
“Our help is in the name of the Lord, who made heaven and earth.”
Psalms 124:8 MEV
Think about a challenge you are facing.
As you do this, imagine Jesus standing nearby.
Call out to him.
What does he do? How does he respond?
