Good Fear

Good Fear

Day1

Week4

Hebrews4

“Therefore, let us be terrified of the possibility that, even though the promise of entering his rest remains, any one of you might be judged to have fallen short of it; for Good News has also been proclaimed to us, just as it was to them. But the message they heard didn’t do them any good, because those who heard it did not combine it with trust. For it is we who have trusted who enter the rest. It is just as he said, “And in my anger, I swore that they would not enter my rest.” He swore this even though his works have been in existence since the founding of the universe.”

Good Fear

I chose this translation, “The Complete Jewish Bible” CJB for today’s lesson because the language is plain and severe.

Be terrified with a good fear that will save you from missing the promise of His rest.

What is the most hurtful thing in any relationship?

A betrayal or lack of trust, right?

Almighty God, Creator of the Universe has feelings.

All He wants is our love.

He has given us everything.

Why do we still doubt Him?

It is easy to say, “I love God”, but not so easy to take Him at His Word.

Why?

No matter the excuse, He has never failed.

We need to have a good fear of our Creator and understand that we are not better than those we read about in the Bible.

Be terrified with a good fear that will wake you up from your unbelief and cause you to see the faithful, unchanging love of your Father, who will not make exceptions for anyone who refuses to believe Him.

David used some very strong language in Psalm 95 about God’s feelings towards the generation who wandered for 40 years in unbelief.

He said, “I loathed that generation. They are a people who go astray in their heart and they have not known my ways…they shall not enter My rest.”

By grace He gave us Jesus!

It is still up to us to trust in Him.

Action Step

Look in the mirror and let God tell you what He sees.

Today, if you hear His voice, do not harden your hearts.

A healthy, good fear; when we respond to it, will bring us peace and draw us into His rest.
