Godly Encouragement

Day4

1Samuel 23

Week 38

“And David remained in the wilderness in strongholds, and dwelled in mountains in the Wilderness of Ziph. Saul sought him every day, but God did not give him into his hand. Now David saw that Saul had come out to seek his life. And David was in the Wilderness of Ziph in Horesh. Jonathan, the son of Saul, arose and went to David at Horesh. And he strengthened his hand in God. He said to him, “Do not fear, for the hand of Saul my father will not find you. You will be king over Israel, and I will be next to you. Saul my father knows this.” The two of them made a covenant before the Lord. And David stayed in Horesh, but Jonathan went to his house.”

Godly Encouragement

Do you ever feel like life is coming at you from all sides?

David was being pursued from all sides, but God was with him. God sent Jonathan to “strengthen his hand in God”. Basically Jonathan gave David a pep talk. He gave him Godly encouragement by reminding him that he was not alone. He reminded him of his future and of their covenant friendship.

Sometimes all we need is a friend to sit with us, or a kind word pointing us towards our future. A simple reminder that we are not alone.

Jonathan was facing his own challenges, nevertheless he chose to find his friend and give him some Godly encouragement.

I have found that when I am feeling the most discouraged, I experience the greatest relief when I forget about myself and find someone to offer Godly encouragement to.

Action Step

Find someone to encourage today.

Ask God to bring someone to mind.

Pray for them and then take action by calling them, sending a text, arranging a visit in person….

We are all called to provide Godly encouragement for each other.

2 Corinthians 1:3-5
