God’s Timing

Day1

Week29

2 Samuel

“Abishai the son of Zeruiah answered, “Shall not Shimei be put to death for this, because he cursed the anointed of the Lord?” David said, “What do you sons of Zeruiah have against me that you should become an adversary to me today? Should any man in Israel be put to death today? For do I not know that today I am king over Israel?” The king said to Shimei, “You will not die.” The king gave him his oath.”

‭‭2 Samuel‬ ‭19‬:‭21‬-‭23‬ ‭MEV‬‬

God’s Timing

It would only seem right that the man who made David and his men miserable, while on the run from Absalom, be punished, right?

David shows great restraint and wisdom here. He is looking at the big picture and considering all his kingdom. This is another picture of Jesus through the life of David.

So often we want justice now! We tend to be impatient with other’s impending doom, while God waits and allows every opportunity for true repentance. He is merciful. God’s timing is not to be understood by man. We are simply to trust in His goodness.

Jesus disciples expected Him to start a revolt against Rome and free them from their earthly oppression, but His plan was much bigger than they could have imagined.

Action Step

Anxiety in the heart of man weighs it down, but a good word cheers it up.

PROVERBS 12:25 MEV

Take a deep breath and pay attention to what's weighing on your heart.
