God's Great Mercy

Day1 finish

Psalm 107: 42-43

“The lovers of God will rejoice when they see this. Good men are glad when the evil ones are silenced. If you are truly wise, you’ll learn from what I’ve told you. It’s time for you to consider these profound lessons of God’s great love and mercy!”

‭‭Psalms‬ ‭107:42-43‬ ‭TPT‬‬

God’s Great Mercy

During our study of Psalm 107 as I looked up references; I found two different places where Moses strikes a rock to give the physically thirsty water to drink.

The first time God instructs Moses to strike the rock. Moses obeys and God made water come out of the rock to quench the thirst of the people.

The second time God instructed Moses to speak to the rock, but Moses in anger toward the people, struck the rock. God was merciful and still allowed water to flow and the people once again were quenched.

The first instruction represents the Old-Covenant or Old Testament.

Strike rock – something physical, tangible. The law. God used physical things that we could see and feel to work through. The law had many steps to follow. Tangible sacrifices we could hold in our hand and see with our eyes. Faith in our actions. The second Instruction represents the New Covenant or New Testament.

Speak to the rock – Jesus was the final sacrifice. We now believe in what we don’t see. God with us, Inside us. He Restored us to the beginning, like Him. Believe, speak and create.

Moses cursed the people with his lips calling them rebels, in his anger. God wanted him to bless them with his mouth by speaking to the rock and demonstrating the power of our mouth when we speak God‘s word. This would have put the emphasis on God’s power rather than on human actions.

God’s mercy never fails. Even when we are disobedient, God is still merciful.

Moses relied or trusted in the tool, his rod, rather than God himself.

Are you relying on the tools of the past?

Are you trusting in the methods that God has used to help you in the past?

God is a big God. He wants us to trust in him alone.

Let’s consider all God has taught us during the study of Psalm 107. Really consider what He has spoken to you personally about.

Re-read your notes and take a moment to write a letter to God about what He has done for you in this past month or so and through this study. Reflect on this today.
